Compare PDFs

Compare two PDF documents and highlight their differences. Runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your computer.

Comparison is text-based (word-level): the tool extracts the text from both PDFs and highlights what changed, with removed words in red and added words in green. It works best on digital PDFs where you care about wording changes. For scanned documents, run OCR first to make the text selectable.

How to Use

  1. Select Original PDF - Choose the original/older version
  2. Select Edited PDF - Choose the new/revised version
  3. Compare - Process the documents
  4. Review Differences - View highlighted changes

Features

  • Side-by-side or stacked layout - Toggle between horizontal and vertical views
  • Word-level diff - Removed words highlighted in red, added words highlighted in green
  • Change navigation - Dropdown selectors to jump between deletions and additions
  • Synchronized scrolling - Optional linked scrolling between the two panes
  • Zoom and pan - Scroll-wheel zoom, pinch-to-zoom, and drag to pan

Limitations

  • Works best with digital PDFs (not scanned). It compares extracted text only, so layout-only or image-only changes are not detected. For scanned documents, run OCR first
  • Documents with no extractable text cannot be compared
  • Very large or highly dissimilar documents may be stopped early with a warning

  • OCR - Make scanned PDFs searchable before comparing
