Opening and saving files
Open files#
- Double-click a PDF, or right-click it and choose Open with → Stirling PDF.
- In the app, select Open from computer in the left sidebar.
- Drag files onto the app window.
Files you open stay in the app until you remove them.
Make Stirling PDF your default PDF app#
Go to Settings → Preferences → Editor defaults and select Set as Default. On Windows this opens Default apps in Windows Settings, where you pick Stirling PDF for PDF files.
Save your changes#
Select Save in the top bar, or press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on macOS), to write over the file you opened. Use Save As for a copy.
Closing a window with unsaved changes asks whether to save first.
If another program changes an open file while you have unsaved edits, File changed on disk asks you to choose Keep my changes or Use the disk version.
Work in more than one window#
Press Ctrl+N (Cmd+N on macOS) for a new window, or choose Open in new window from a file's menu in the File library. Windows and macOS only.
See Desktop app shortcuts for more shortcuts.
