AI assistant

The AI assistant answers questions about the files in your workspace and runs tools for you when you describe what you want in plain words.

Where it's available#

  • Stirling Cloud: included for signed-in accounts. AI use draws on your team's credits (Plans, credits and billing). Guests are asked to create an account.
  • Desktop app: sign in to Stirling Cloud, or connect to a self-hosted server that has AI turned on (Connection modes). It isn't available in Local Only mode.
  • Self-hosted server: AI is off until an admin sets it up (AI on your server). The admin can also turn off individual capabilities, so you may not see all of them.

Open the assistant#

  1. Add your files to the workspace.
  2. Click Open Stirling AI assistant at the bottom right. The AI Assistant panel opens.
  3. Type in What do you want to do? and click Send message, or pick a suggestion under Get started, such as Compress this document.

The assistant works on the files in your workspace. When it changes a file, the result is saved as a new version of that file. Merged, split or new files are added to the workspace as new files.
